Coaching Tips Part 2

In a previous blog post, we discussed a few important tips to keep in mind when coaching to help your team flourish to their fullest extent. Coaches are important members of every sports league. They serve as not only a communication point for parents and web league managers, but also are integral to helping coach the players to explore their abilities and play as a team. Here are more tips continued from those previously posted to aid you in your coaching endeavors.

Welcome feedback – Different people respond to different coaching styles in a variety of ways. One player might become more motivated to strive for their best with harsh, truthful criticism, but that technique probably doesn’t work for all members of the team. Eliciting feedback from players and parents about what coaching style helps them most can be a great learning tool.

Don’t only focus on the negative – Coaching is about helping players gain more knowledge and strengthen their abilities in a specific sport. This often results in stances being corrected, problematic swings being noted, kicks being timed poorly, and many other notes. Critiques like these are necessary for improvement, but don’t let that stop you from also pointing out and congratulating the things that are being done well. Players may not realize they’re exceling in a certain aspect of the game, and pointing out their strengths can help to build confidence and motivate them to perfect other skills.

Good coaching can help teams and leagues as a whole perform well. For help with the management of the league itself, consider enlisting the aid of a web league manager. For more information visit ManageYourLeague.com today.
